Byzantine Icon Style — Sacred Art

A deeply reverent five-piece matryoshka painted in the Byzantine icon tradition, with gold leaf halos, solemn elongated faces, and rich vermillion and ultramarine robes. The artisan trained as an icon painter at the Trinity Lavra monastery before applying those centuries-old techniques to the matryoshka form. Each doll is painted with egg tempera using natural mineral pigments ground by hand, following methods unchanged since the 12th century.
